As temps rise, so does our libido 

As temperatures rise throughout the Black Hills, so does the heat in the bedroom. According to recent studies, July is the most sexually active month of the year. Kathleen Bryson of Oxford University states that “hot summers make our hearts beat quicker alongside increased blood circulation…this phenomenon thus mimics signs of sexual arousal, which could potentially make us more willing to have sex.” Bryson also notes that the increase in light from the sun during the warm summer months makes us feel more sexually adventurous: 

“I’ve published research that suggest humans are more ambiguity-tolerant in warmer months…[which] basically means that [we] are more open to novel experiences. This might also make a person more likely to be sexually receptive as well.”

According to scientists, the sun makes us horny! The warm sun triggers healthy, natural biological responses designed for us to grow and thrive as humans. People love to get outside to have fun, enjoy nature, and challenge themselves to explore and seek out adventure. Marian O’Connor a psychotherapist at Tavistock Relationships describes our relationship with the warm summer months: 

“People feel the sun on their faces. They notice the greenery around them…they might be swimming in the sea…a very different experience from being huddled away from the cold. One of the things about sex is being aware of your body, and being aware of sensations in your body.”
